The birds consumed the entire feeder in half the usual time in a pre-storm feeding frenzy today. We have been looking for a heated dog bowl so we can keep them watered without our water freezing over, but so far no luck.

Freeze-proof bird watering dish:
Get a light socket on the end of a cord. Put a 60-watt bulb in it.
Put bulb end under 8″ clay flower pot (turned upside down).
Plug it in. Put water dish on top of the upside down clay pot.
Thirsty birds will thank you. Keep dish filled.
Stabilize the whole deal with brick props, as flocks of birds may unbalance it.
A pond heater is an ideal way to keep open water in the winter.
Obviously it needs to be in something larger than a dog bowl check out local garden centres they stock them
