BLOODROOT BLOOMS IN MORRIS PARK

For the record, the first bloom occurred this past Tuesday, March 13, 2012. Paying close attention to the few flowers that did bloom, we noticed that the flower petals grew in size for the next day’s bloom. Last years first bloom started on March 19, which puts this blooming about one week sooner.

We expect the blooming season to last about a month.  Different populations in Morris Park bloom at different times, which makes the blooming season interesting. If you want to come and visit and see a big show, now is not the time, maybe in a week to two weeks.  But here and there, they are starting to bloom.

It is always great to see the first blooms of Bloodroot, welcoming the onset of Spring. This is certainly one early Spring though.

  1. Jacob, come on out next week and you will see the blooms. It will last one month. Enjoy the flowers! Pick a day that will be dry and sunny, and arrive in the afternoon, bloodroot is not a morning flower, one more reason to love it!
Sorry to hear about your depression.

  2. Almost made a trip yesterday… low point of an 8 week long depression, couldn’t deal with the long SEPTA ride. But a spirited action today defending the right to SHARE FOOD with hungry people… hearing before 3 bored reps from the Board of Health–5 hours with comrades I’ve sorely missed–cured the blues in one fell swoop… avoided arrest so I wouldn’t risk missing my reading tomorrow–and almost regret it. What is WRONG with these people!?! Claiming it’s a bigger health problem to eat food cooked in church kitchens than scraping the bottom of dumpsters????
But the Bloodroot in bloom? A trip to Morris Park–maybe Monday…, booked for the weekend or would … or maybe tomorrow? I’d love to see the early bloomers… being myself of a distinctly late variety.
Back in action against this empire of money and death… and bloodroots in bloom in Morris Park! Who could stay depressed!
